Nagusta goedelii is a species of bug from the family of predatory bugs (Reduviidae), which israre in Central Europe.

Distribution and habitats

The insect is common in Central Asia, Asia Minor, the Middle East, and Southern Europe. The animals evidently open up more and more northern areas. The distribution area extends in Central Europe to Austria with first sightings in the Vienna area. In warm, sunny regions, the animals live on deciduous trees , especially oaks ( Quercus ), less often on bushes.

Features and way of life

Nagusta goedelii reaches body lengths between 12.5 and 16.2 millimeters. The slender body is yellow to cinnamon brown and has fine and light hairs. The pronotum is hexagonal. A characteristic feature of this bug are horn-like thorns behind the antennae bumps . The first antenna segment is longer than the second.

This bug feeds only predatory on other insects and possibly arachnids . Mating and oviposition take place in spring. The larvae reach the adult stage in August and September. The adults, for example, hibernate under loose bark. In search of wintering quarters, the animals can also penetrate residential houses.
