The Nahant Thicket Wildlife Sanctuary is only 4 acres (1.6 hectares ) comprehensive protected area in Nahant in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is the smallest protected area owned by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
Despite its small size, the reserve, which essentially consists of a red maple swamp, bushes and a river, is an important resting place for migratory birds such as passerines , vireos and thrushes , especially in the months of May, September and October . A short circular route is available to visitors. Coastal waters border directly on the protected area, where, especially in winter, loons , grebes , ducks and other sea birds can be observed in various types and numbers.
