Weidersberg local recreation area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The local recreation area Weidersberg  - a former quarry in Brand near Marktredwitz  - was founded in 1976 by the citizens' initiative JUZ (youth center) with the aim of a local community park . At that time the name for the numerous activities that took place in the Weidersberg quarry was the "Hinterlandfestl".

However, various events, mostly under the leadership of local associations, have been demonstrable since the 1950s.

history

In 1905, on the advice of his administrator, the Weidersberg basalt works was built in the Weidersberg corridor of Brand Castle by the then lord of the castle, Albert von Seckendorff .

The basalt blocks broken in the Vogelherd and Weidersberg quarries were transported by cable car in attached wagons to the Seußen train station approx. 3.5 kilometers away for further loading.

In 1941 all the facilities were demolished by the Todt Organization and the usable raw materials were transported to Russia.

This meant the end of the basalt work. The remaining buildings and equipment were bequeathed to the community of Brand , from which they were later sold into private hands.

The closed quarry Weidersberg was now available for various festivals and events.

Festivals

Annual music events and motorcycle meetings have been held there since 1988.

The Sticky Fingers  Festival (formerly Hinterlandfestl - today jokingly called Klein- Wacken ) is known nationwide with many well-known bands from the rock scene.

Others

As early as the mid-1970s, the Brander shooting club, founded in 1954, set up its shooting range and shooting home there.
