Victor Alexander Carus
Victor Alexander Carus , also Viktor Alexander Carus (born on July 13, 1888 in Leipzig ; died on August 31, 1940 there ) was a German art and music historian .
Life
Victor Alexander Carus was the son of the zoologist Julius Victor Carus and his second wife Alexandra (née Petroff). From September 1897 to Easter 1906 he attended the Nicolaigymnasium . He then studied art history at the University of Leipzig and the University of Berlin (winter semester 1907/08). He received his doctorate on February 29, 1912 with August Schmarsow and Georg Vitzthum von Eckstädt in Leipzig with a dissertation on the Altarwerk zu Lauenstein and the beginnings of the baroque in Saxony .
From the summer of 1913 onwards, he worked for the editors in Leipzig for volumes 9 to 11 of the General Lexicon of Fine Artists from Antiquity to the Present and wrote biographical articles under the abbreviation VAC. In 1913 he also compiled the register of volumes for the teaching and manual of world history by Georg Weber and Alfred Baldamus .
He worked for many years at the State Institute for Music Research in Berlin, where he edited the German-language magazines for the bibliography of the music literature in the "German magazine articles" section .
