The transport service company Thuringia (NVS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Free State of Thuringia . She plans ordered and financed as transport authorities in the country commissioned the rail transport (regional rail) in Thuringia on the basis of the Regionalization Act . It should be dissolved in early 2019. The tasks are taken over by the regional rail passenger transport department in the Thuringian State Office for Construction and Transport .

At the timetable change in December 2015, the NVS announced that all regional trains in its network will in future be designated with the train types RB , SE and RE . The terms CAN , EB / EBx , STB and VL should no longer be used in the future. At the timetable change in December 2017, however, the new name STx was introduced for the express trains of the Süd-Thüringen-Bahn, because the allocation took place in October 2015.
