Naihati ( Bengali : নৈহাটি ) is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal with around 220,000 inhabitants (2011 census). It is located in the Uttar 24 Pargana district and is part of the Kolkata agglomeration .
history
The Naihati community was founded in 1869 and is one of the oldest in West Bengal.
The city experienced rapid population growth when it was overrun by a wave of refugees from what was then East Pakistan when India was partitioned in 1947 .
Demographics
Official population statistics have only been kept and published regularly since 1991; for Naihati, however, there are also older figures. The strong increase in the urban population is mainly due to the immigration of families from rural regions.

The city's population is 249,142 according to the 2011 census. Naihati has a gender ratio of 973 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 91.0% in 2011. Almost 92.3% of the population are Hindus , around 7.0% are Muslims , around 0.1% are Sikhs and around 0.6% belong to others or none Religions. 9.0% of the population are children under six years of age.

Naihati Station is part of the Indian Railways' Eastern Railway zone .
Sports
The 25,000-seat Naihati Stadium , which is mainly used for club football, has been the largest sports facility in Naihati since it opened in 2019.
