content
The film, which is characterized by many long shots and beautifully composed images, depicts episodes from the life of Nainsukh , the most important painter of the 18th century in India. In contrast to his father Pandit Seu and his older brother Manaku, who are more committed to the traditional Pahari painting style, Nainsukh is fascinated by the naturalistic painting that is practiced at the Mughal court . At thirty he left the studio and found a new patron in Raja Balwant Singh, the prince of Jasrota. As court painter, he documents the life of this prince.
The film was shot on location and often refers to images created by Nainsukh himself.
