The Nairobi is a river in central Kenya .

The city of Nairobi represents a large part of its catchment area . The headwaters are located west of the capital at over 2000 m. The Nairobi River System is a complex collection of a multitude of parallel rivers that flow from west to east before flowing into the Athi not far from Nairobi .

The river is heavily polluted on its way through the big city. However, there are efforts to improve the water quality so that the water can be used by the population.
