The Río Najerilla is an approx. 100 km long tributary of the Ebro , Spain's most water-rich river; it rises in the far east of the province of Burgos about 3 km north of the town of Canales de la Sierra, which is already in the province of Rioja, and flows first in an easterly, then further north through the region of La Rioja .

Sometimes the Río Neila is seen as the source of the Río Najerilla, which only changes its name after its confluence.

tourism

The upper reaches of the Río Najerilla is a popular fishing area (trout, bream) and is also suitable for hiking and canoeing .

Viticulture

Large areas in the Valle Najerilla belong to the wine-growing region of the Rioja Alta . In the middle of the vineyards there are still a number of conical stone huts with cantilever domes , which served as weather protection, but - shortly before the grape harvest - were also used to guard the grapes from theft by birds and people.

Attractions

The place Canales de la Sierra has been classified as a Conjunto histórico-artístico because of its culturally and historically significant buildings and its appearance . The places Anguiano and Bobadilla also have buildings of cultural interest. Nájera was temporarily the capital of the Kingdom of Navarre in the 10th and 11th centuries and thus has several cultural sights - above all the former monastery of Santa María la Real with its royal and prince graves. Only 2 km southeast of Nájera is the place Tricio with one of the oldest and most unusual church buildings in Spain.
