Nalbari is a city in the Indian state of Assam .
The city is the capital of the Nalbari district . Nalbari has the status of a municipal board . The city is divided into 12 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census, it had 27,839 inhabitants, of which 14,425 were men and 13,414 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 68%. Muslims form a minority of over 27%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 90.2%, well above the national average. 10.0% belong to the Scheduled Tribes .
Nalbari Station is part of the Northeast Frontier Railway zone of Indian Railways .
