Akunnaaq [ aˌkuˈnːɑːq ] (according to the old spelling Akúnâĸ ) is a desolate, fallen Greenlandic settlement in the Ilulissat district in Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Akunnaaq is on the north bank of the southeastern end of Sullorsuaq (Vaigat) on a small peninsula. Qeqertaq is 10 km to the east .

history

The first mention of the place was in 1787. At that time there was a catechist in Akunnaaq. Akunnaaq, however, was uninhabited between 1793 and 1805. In 1816 19 people lived in the village. In 1850 no residents were counted again, but in 1883 the place was inhabited again.

In 1915, the residential area belonging to the Qeqertaq community had 21 residents who lived in three houses. There was a fisherman and six hunters, one of whom was also a catechist. Akunnaaq was given up in 1928.
