Nalbari is a district in the center of the Indian state of Assam .
The area is 1052 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name, Nalbari .
history
The district was established in 1985 from parts of the Kamrup district . In 2004 Baksa was separated and became a separate district, which reduced the area and population.
population
The population was 771,639 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 11.92%. Nalbari has a gender ratio of 949 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 78.63% in 2011 , an increase of almost 6 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus above the national average. Almost 63.7% of the population are Hindus , approx. 36.0% are Muslims , approx. 0.1% each are Christians and Jainas and approx. 0.1% did not indicate any religious affiliation or practiced other religions. Children under 6 years of age are 12.4% of the population.
Almost 10.7% of the population live in cities.
