Charaideo is a district in the Indian state of Assam . The administrative seat is Sonari .
history
The district was created in 2015 from parts of the Sivasagar district. At that time, the Mahmora and Sonari circles split off from the Sivasagar district and formed the new Charaideo district.

According to the 2011 census, the Charaideo district has 458,615 inhabitants. With 429 inhabitants per square kilometer, the district is very densely populated. The district is still rural. Of the 458,615 residents, 428,892 people (93.52%) live in rural areas and 29,723 people in urban communities.
The Charaideo district is one of the areas of India that is populated by a small number of members of the "tribal population" ( scheduled tribes ). Among them were (2011) 11,705 people (2.55 percent of the district population). There are also 7,500 Dalits ( scheduled castes ) (1.64 percent of the district's population) in the district.
Population development
As everywhere in India, the population in the Charaideo district has been growing rapidly for decades. The increase in the years 2001–2011 was 10.5 percent (10.53%). In these ten years the population increased by over 43,000 people. The following table illustrates the development:
Significant places
With the district capital Sonari, there is only one place in the district with more than 10,000 inhabitants. The places Moranhat and Sepon also count as cities (notified towns).
District population by gender
In 2011, the district had more male than female residents, which is common in India. However, the relationship between the two sexes was much more balanced than in other regions of India. Of the total population of 458,615 people, 234,543 (51.14 percent of the population) were male and 224,072 female. Among the youngest residents (60,889 people under 7 years of age), 31,005 people (50.92%) are male and people (49.08%) are female.
District population by language
The population of the Charaideo district is linguistically mixed. Nevertheless, Assami is spoken by a clear majority of the population. This is followed by the Hindu language Sadan / Sadri, Bengali and Odia, each with more than 10,000 speakers. The following table shows the most widely used languages:

Population of the district by confession
The Hindus are the clear majority of the population. There is a clear majority of Hindus in both circles. Christians and Muslims are roughly equally represented in both circles. In contrast, followers of traditional religions (listed under Other) concentrate on the Mahmoda Circle and the Buddhists on the Sonari Circle. education
Thanks to significant efforts, literacy is increasing. Nevertheless, it is deep, as only 74 percent of the population can read and write. In urban areas, more than 88 percent can read and write. In contrast, just under 73 percent are in rural areas. The strong differences between the sexes and the urban / rural population are typical of Indian conditions.
