Dhubri is a district in the west of the Indian state of Assam .
The area is 2176 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Dhubri .
history
In 2015, South Salmara-Mankachar was separated and made into a separate district, reducing the area and population.
population
The population was 1,949,258 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 24.44%, which is high. Dhubri has a gender ratio of 953 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 58.34% in 2011 , an increase of almost 10 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus well below the national average. Almost 79.7% of the population are Muslim , approx. 20.0% are Hindus , approx. 0.2% are Christians , approx. 0.1% are Jainas and approx. 0.1% did not indicate any religious affiliation or practiced any other Religions. 18.9% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
