Nalbari is a district in the center of the Indian state of Assam .
The area is 2012 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name, Nalbari . The district is part of the Bodoland region and therefore has certain rights of autonomy.
history
The district was created in 2004 from parts of Darrang .
population
The population was 831,668 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 9.61%. Udalguri has a gender ratio of 949 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. In 2011 the district had a literacy rate of 65.41%, an increase of almost 9 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus below the national average. Almost 73.6% of the population are Hindus , approx. 13.3% are Christians , approx. 12.7% are Muslims , approx. 0.2% are Buddhists and approx. 0.2% did not indicate any religious affiliation or practiced another Religions. 13.6% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
Almost 4.5% of the population live in cities.
