Nalgonda is a city in the Indian state of Telangana .
The city is the capital of the Nalgonda district . Nalgonda has the status of a municipality. The city is divided into 14 wards (constituencies).
Demographics
According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 135,744 and that of the metropolitan area is 154,326. Nalgonda has a gender ratio of 997 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 86.8% in 2011. Almost 77% of the population are Hindus , approx. 19% are Muslims and approx. 4% belong to another or no religion. 10.5% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
Infrastructure
The city is connected to the rest of India through its train station. National and state highways that run through the city are National Highway 565, State Highway 2, and State Highway 18.
