Namochwani ( Georgian ნამოხვანი , official; occasionally Namachwani, ნამახვანი ) is a village in the municipality of Zqaltubo in Georgia .

geography

Namochwani in the region of Imereti in western Georgia, nearly 20 line kilometers north of Kutaisi in the valley of the river Rioni on the right (western) bank. It belongs to the rural municipality of Opurtscheti (Opurtschetis temi) and is located about 7 km north of the main town. The national road Sch16 ( შ 16 ) runs through Namochwani from Kutaisi via Ambrolauri and Oni to the Russian border.

The village has a school, a library and a church.

Hydroelectric power plant

The construction of a hydroelectric power station with an output of 450  MW on the Rioni, which breaks through the western foothills of the Ratscha Mountains , is planned near the village . The project was rated by the Georgian Ministry of Energy as “risk-free”. Investors were sought for the implementation of the project, including a visit by the Georgian Prime Minister to Kuwait .

The construction is part of the strategy to modernize the Georgian power supply with the expansion of the hydropower plants by an output of 511 MW. According to the Georgian Ministry of Economic Affairs, the power plant on the Rioni will initially account for 250 MW.
