The Namur Belgian-American District , also known as the Namur Historic District , is a Historic District in the village of Namur , in Door County , Wisconsin . The settlement was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 6, 1989 . On December 14, 1990, the Historic District was given the status of a National Historic Landmark .
The Namur Belgian-American District consists of 263 buildings and sites, 186 of which are considered contributing property . Because of its homogeneous population, the district is an example of the ethnic enclave in northeastern Wisconsin, which was created through migration from Belgium . In 1987 Walloon was spoken in this region and Belgian cuisine was the preferred food.
