Nando's is a South African fast-food restaurant chain which, as a franchise and system catering company, offers mainly spicy chicken products as fast food.

The chain was founded in 1987 in Rosettenville , a suburb of Johannesburg shaped by Portuguese immigrants , by Fernando Duarte and Robert Brozin. Since July 2014 the group has belonged to the South African businessman Dick Enthoven and his family.

Nando's is one of the few companies from emerging countries that has expanded internationally, especially in neighboring countries and the countries of the Commonwealth . In 2012 there were almost 1,000 sales outlets in 35 countries, 270 of them in Australia (2013) and 282 in Great Britain and Ireland (2013). According to a White Paper of the American magazine Advertising Age belonged Nando's in 2010 to the World's top 30 hottest marketing brands ( German  The 30 heißesten trademarks in the world ).

The typical taste of the dishes has not only Portuguese but also Mozambican roots, as Portuguese colonial rulers cultivated the chilli type Piri-Piri there. The inspiration of the black rooster logo is based on the rooster of Barcelos , which, according to legend, crowed while still grilled to save an innocent pilgrim from the gallows.
