Nanni di Baccio Bigio
Nanni di Baccio Bigio , actually Giovanni Lippi (* 1511 (?) In Florence , † 1568 in Rome ) was a Florentine sculptor and architect.
Life
Bigio studied sculpture with Raffaello da Montelupo . Together with the sculptor Lorenzetto he created the statue of Pope Clement VII in Rome for the choir of the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva and a Pietà for the Church of Santa Maria dell'Anima as well as a second Pietà for the Church of Santo Spirito in Florence.
He worked under Antonio da Sangallo on the construction of St. Peter's Basilica and later built palaces and private houses in various places as an architect.
Bigio was a contemporary of Michelangelo ; he was known for his polemical remarks about Michelangelo and his work.
