Nano aquarium
The nano aquarium ( ancient Greek νᾶνος Nanos "dwarf") is the smallest type of aquarium , in which the aquarium dwarf shrimp dwarf crayfish , snails and suitable for nano aquarium fish are kept. The typical volume of a nano aquarium is less than 54 liters, usually between 12 and 36 liters.
Aquarium types
Freshwater aquariums are mainly used in nano aquaristics . There is also a trend towards nano seawater aquariums (known as nano reef aquariums) from North America, which rarely exceed a size of 12, 20, 25, 27 or 36 liters. Mainly corals , but also shrimp and invertebrates are kept in these . Fish are also suitable for this type of tank. Often, cuttings from larger aquariums are kept in nano saltwater aquariums in order to breed them or to observe them more closely. Aquarium size
Nano aquariums are cube-shaped (often referred to as cube ) or cuboid. A typical 30 liter nano aquarium has the dimensions 30 × 30 × 35 cm. Other standard sizes of nano aquariums are 12 liters (30 × 20 × 20 cm), 25 liters (40 × 25 × 25 cm) and 45 liters (50 × 30 × 30 cm). As large a floor area as possible (measured by the edge length) is advantageous for the animals. It is recommended not to go below 30 liters for keeping small fish.
Suitable animals and socialization
Dwarf shrimp are usually kept in a nano aquarium, of which Neocaridina davidi is the most popular with aquarists due to its robustness. Different genera of dwarf shrimp are only used to a limited extent for socialization, as the original form of the farmed shrimp can result from crossing or the color forms can mix. Using the crossing tables available on the Internet, it should therefore be checked carefully before stocking which genera are crossing.
Dwarf shrimp are often associated with snails (such as tower snails or ramshorn snails ). It is not recommended to socialize dwarf shrimp with dwarf crayfish (e.g. striped dwarf crayfish ), as the latter can stalk the shrimp.
Fish suitable for nano aquariums are small (three to four centimeters) and are characterized primarily by a small-scale, stationary way of life (e.g. some killifish ). Further examples are dwarf carflies , danios of the genus Boraras , the dwarf blue perch or the guinea fowl harlequin . The tetras can be kept in small aquariums from 30 liters: dwarf ornamental tetra , pepper tetra ( Axelrodia risei ), spark tetra and the black neon .
criticism
Nano aquariums are particularly criticized because of their small size.
