Nanumea Conservation Area ( German Nanumea Protected Area ) is a marine reserve in the Pacific state of Tuvalu . It is one of three nature reserves in the country and covers an area of two square kilometers . The reserve was established in 2006.
The Nanumea Conservation Area is located in the north of Nanumea - Atoll . The reserve covers about 10 percent of the lagoon around the main island Nanumea .
In 2012, 207 species of fish were registered in the waters. Up to 42 percent of the sea is covered with corals .
