Nanxiang Municipality ( Chinese 南翔 镇 , Pinyin Nánxiáng Zhèn ) is a district of the Chinese city of Shanghai in the Jiading District .
Attractions
To the east of Nanxiang is the 9-hectare Guyi Garden ( Garden of Classical Splendor ), a park from the Ming Dynasty in the style of the Suzhou Gardens . The Buddhist Yunxiang Temple , one of the largest temples in Shanghai, is about 10 minutes' walk from the Guyi Garden , but it is less visited than the large temples in Shanghai's city center.
gastronomy
Nanxiang is the place of origin of the Xiaolongbao , a type of steamed, filled dumplings typical of the Shanghai region and belonging to Dim Sum , which were first prepared in the 19th century. Nowadays there is a whole street in Nanxiang ( 古 猗 园路 , Gǔyīyuán Lù , English Guyiyuan Road ) in which Xialongbao restaurants can be found almost exclusively. One of the two restaurants in Shanghai that are considered authentic for Xiaolongbao is located on this street, right at the place of the invention next to the Guyi Garden .
transport
Nanxiang can be reached in around 40 minutes from the city center via line 11 of the Shanghai Metro in the direction of Haoqiao or Jiading North .
