Napoleon Cybulski

Napoleon Nikodem Cybulski (born September 14, 1854 in Krzywonosy near Święciany , Eastern Lithuania ; † April 26, 1919 in Krzeszowice near Cracow ) was a Polish physiologist .

Life

Cybulski came from a noble family . After high school in Minsk , he studied medicine at the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg . From 1877 to 1885 he worked as an assistant at the local Physiological Institute. In 1885 he completed his studies with the diploma “cum exima laude”, received his doctorate and in the same year appointed to the chair of physiology, histology and embryology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow . 1904/1905 he was rector of the university.

In 1894, together with his student Władysław Szymonowicz (1869–1939), Cybulski discovered adrenaline in a blood vessel leading away from the adrenal gland .

Cybulski was honored with the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland after his death .
