Narciso Bernardo

Narciso "Ciso" C. Bernardo (born July 27, 1937 in Manila ; † December 23, 2008 ibid) was a Filipino basketball player and coach and politician .

biography

Bernardo began his career as a basketball player during the time of the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) in the Mariwasa AC team and was one of the top scorers during his active time and received several honors and awards for it.

At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome , he was appointed to the Philippine national basketball team. At the local basketball competitions , the team reached 11th place in the final placement.

As a member of the national team, he also won the gold medal at the Asian Basketball Championship in Taipei in 1967 in the final against the team of the Republic of China (Taiwan) .

Ciso Bernardo was appointed to the Olympic team again at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich and played for 13th place at the local basketball tournament against Japan , which the Philippines won 82:73.

After his playing days, he worked as a basketball coach and as such coach of the "Crispa Redmanizers" team in 1984 when he won the championship of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

For his services as a player in the 1960s, he was voted one of the five best players of all time in the PBA (All-Time Mythical Five of Philippine Basketball) in January 1998.

He was also politically active and for some time councilor (Councilor) of Mandaluyong City in the center of Metro Manila . He had been bedridden since 2002 after a stroke .
