The Dülken Narrenakademie (full name: Die Narrenakademie. The enlightened moon university. The mounted academy of arts and sciences in Dülken. Registered association ) is a fools society based in Viersen .

history

Meeting place of the Narrenakademie:
the Dülkener Narrenmühle

The association was founded in Dülken , a district of Viersen on the left Lower Rhine and sees February 21, 1554 as the day it was founded. It was founded as a mockery of the clergy and the exaggerated importance of the scholars. They gave themselves Latin names, exaggerated titles and academic dignities and rode hobby horses around the seat of society, the fool's mill .

The Narrenakademie was initially located in the Tränkemühle (built in 1505, burned down in 1880) in front of the Süchtelner Tor on the Mühlenberg, (today the location of the Paul-Weyers elementary school), which has been considered far beyond regional borders since the beginning of the 19th century "Academic mill" became known. Later it moved to the 1809 built first as a museum mill, later named as a fool's mill. Around 1835, the fool's academic life dissolved. The fool's academy was not rebuilt until 1937 to promote the Dülken Rose Monday procession. The association is headed by the so-called "Rector magnificus". The fool academy meets in the “wisdom room” of the mill.

The association was founded in 1974 as a registered association. Today its Senate meets monthly and deals with serious and not-so-serious questions at its sessions. Once a year in November, the senators and the corresponding members meet for a big ball, the festival of the order. The organization of the Rose Monday procession is now in the hands of the Father City Association. He is responsible for what is, in his own opinion, the longest carnival procession in the left Lower Rhine, which attracts many foreigners to Dülken on this day. In 1997 it consisted of 152 wagons, foot groups and music bands. The academy also chooses the Carnival Prince and is responsible for the city's museum, which was set up in a post mill in 1912 and redesigned in 2002/03.

The Fools Academy awards the title " Doctor humoris causa ". The sponsors include famous fools such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Berti Vogts , Erich Kästner , Salvador Dalí , Konrad Beikircher , Hanns Dieter Hüsch , Konrad Adenauer and the first man on the moon , Neil Armstrong and, in 2006, the then Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia , Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers . The oldest known diploma of the fools academy was issued in 1746.

The members open the Dülken carnival session on November 11th every year with their fool's ride around the windmill on hobby horses . The procession of horsemen is led by the rector magnificus and the senators of the fools' academy. He is accompanied by the city's carnival clubs.
