The Elzach Fool's Guild is the fool's guild , whose task as a non-profit, registered association is to preserve the traditions and organize the carnival in Elzach .

history

The oldest documented mention of the carnival in Elzach comes from the year 1530. On November 16, 1924, the Elzach fool's guild was a founding member of the Swabian-Alemannic fool's guild , from which it joined the fool's guilds from Rottweil and Überlingen in 1953 because of disputes about the preservation of the carnival traditions exited. Since 1963 it has formed the four-league together with the guilds from Oberndorf , Überlingen and Rottweil .

Figures of the Elzacher Fasnet

Messy

Elzacher Schuttig
Elzacher Schuttig

The Schuttig is the traditional Elzach carnival figure. He has a red shaggy suit with a large straw hat and snail shells attached to it. He wears a twisted three-cornered hat on his head, with large balls of paper or red wool on the ends. In his hand he usually carries the hagtail with the “ Saublodere ” (pig's bladder) or stretching scissors.

The rubble suits were refined in the 1920s. They received neatly cut, bright red felt bags, a uniformly green larva made of felt, a white silk scarf, white gloves and red wool balls, black socks and black shoes on the rubble hat.

The variety of larvae of the rubble fool is particularly rich; There are seven basic types of larvae: the Gfrisse (Bärengfriss, Fuchsgfriss) , the long noses which Lätsch , the brat , the devil larvae and Bart larvae and Mundle . Individual larvae include the Dodegfriss , the Sonntag , the Napoleon larva , the Zohluckewiible , formerly the Mariannle , the Affengfriss , the old boar tooth , the lion and the black devil larva , which carries the single figure in the black shaggy dress as the leader during the rubble parade.

The special thing about the Elzacher Fasnet is that the debris never removes the larvae in public. He only does this in the "rubbish rooms", to which only rubbish people have access. This severity is unique in the Swabian-Alemannic carnival and gives it a special charm. Since every fool has several larvae and they change frequently during the carnival, it is impossible for people to see who is under the larva.

Rägemolli

Rägemolli

The Rägemolli , a modification of the rubble in a painted natural linen suit, rejects its name from the dialect name of the fire salamander due to the design of its suit . He carries a whip or a broom. This figure had long disappeared from the Elzach carnival image and was revived in the 1960s. Traditionally, the Rägemolli is painted on the front with a moon and stars, an owl and a bat. There is a sun or fire salamander on the back. He wears a tricorn hat with paper balls. In addition, many Rägemolli carry lighter larvae, such as the white-primed Mundle or the Langnas .

Night watchman couple

Other figures are the night watchman and his wife who run along at the top of the procession, with the "woman" traditionally being represented by a man.

Day caller

The day callers wear high, bag-shaped hats called “chakko”, black, leather eye masks and a white shirt with colorful stripes at the bottom. They practice the custom of day calling on the morning of Carnival Monday.

Course of the Elzacher Fasnet

Two weeks before Carnival Sunday , the children's carnival begins, which reaches its climax on Schmotzige Thursday with a parade of children in Schuttig costume known as a fool's run .

Carnival Sunday begins with the carnival proclamation at 12:00 p.m., followed by a fool's run at 3:00 p.m. and a fool's run with torches at 8:00 p.m.

Carnival Monday begins with day calls at 5:00 a.m. Schuttig , town musicians, the seven day callers and the night watchman couple meet in various places in the city to sing the night watchman's song and satirize the events of the past year in the city. In the late afternoon and especially in the evening, the morality singers roam the town; they tell old stories with humor. The morality singers visit every open pub.

Carnival Tuesday begins with the Lachari fetch . The leaders of the guild decide who is to be caught, tied with a fool's rope and driven to the “Löwen” inn on a cart. Another fool's run takes place in the afternoon . The carnival ends at midnight; all fools then remove their larvae.

Every seven years the urchin riding takes place on Carnival Monday (last date 2013, next date 2020). Bengelreiter is the city's newly married husband. He climbs out of the window of his bedroom with a suit and top hat and sits down on two loosely connected rods, the so-called villain. He is then carried after the black devil's rubble. Seven single women with smooth wooden swords and seven married women with serrated swords frame the urchin carried by four men. In various places in the city, the single women try to force the rascal rider from his seat after a signal from the guild master. The married women try to prevent that. If the villain falls down, he will be thrown into the city fountain amid the laughter of the spectators. If he does not fall, he will be given a certificate.
