The Nascent Glacier ( English for nascent or immature glacier ) is a short glacier with a predominantly smooth surface on the Borchgrevink coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It flows in the extreme east of the Mountaineer Range in a south-easterly direction to the Ross Sea , which it reaches between the Gauntlet Ridge and Index Point .
The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee gave it a descriptive name due to its nature.
