Nassef Sawiris

Nassef Sawiris ( Arabic ناصف ساويرس, DMG Nāṣif Sāwīris ; * 1961 ) is a Belgian entrepreneur of Egyptian origin.

Life

Sawiris comes from a wealthy Coptic family. His father Onsi Sawiris founded the Orascom company in 1972 . His older brothers are Naguib Sawiris (* 1954) and Samih Sawiris (* 1957). Sawiris attended the German Evangelical High School in Cairo and studied economics at the University of Chicago . Nassef Sawiris has been CEO of fertilizer manufacturer OCI since 1998 . In 2008, Sawiris was appointed to the board of the French construction company LafargeHolcim . In the 2000s he was involved in the National Democratic Party (NDP) of Egyptian President Husni Mubarak . During this time he was also a member of the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES), a think tank that advised the Egyptian government on economic issues. According to the US Forbes Magazine, Sawiris is one of the richest Egyptians.

Sawiris lives in London .
