Natália Correia (painting by Botelho )

Natália de Oliveira Correia (born September 13, 1923 in Fajã de Baixo , São Miguel , Azores ; † March 16, 1993 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese writer and intellectual.

She studied in Lisbon and worked in various publications. During the Estado Novo she was monitored by the regime and her works were partially censored. After the Carnation Revolution , she was a member of the Assembleia da República for the Portuguese Social Democratic Party from 1980 to 1991 .

She left behind an extensive and varied body of works of dramas, poetry, short stories, novels, scripts, essays, scientific and political texts as well as travel literature and a diary. In addition, she published several anthologies of poetry from the 1960s: Because of the Antologie da Poesia Erótica e Satírica from 1966, she was brought to justice. In her provocative and polemical essays, she tried to break traditional thought patterns. She always remained closely connected to her homeland, the Azores , and in 1979 wrote the lyrics for their regional anthem . Shortly before her death, she prepared a complete edition of the final hand of her lyrical work.
