Fajã de Baixo is a freguesia in the county / district government (Concelho) Ponta Delgada , the capital, on the Portuguese Azores -Insel São Miguel with 5050 inhabitants (as of 30 June 2011) to 4.1 square kilometers. The population density is 1243 inhabitants per km².

Geography and place name

Fajã de Baixo (Portuguese: Fajã = location name: flat area, close to the sea, on lava cliffs; Baixo = lowland, lower, deep) is located slightly above sea level about one kilometer northeast of the city limits of Ponta Delgada on the EN4-1A road Fenais da Luz on the north side of the island. Immediately to the northwest is the sister community Fajã de Cima .
