Nate is a South Korean search engine and web portal .

The portal was founded by SK Communications , a subsidiary of the SK Group . It also runs the Cyworld social network . Nate is a competitor to the previously founded Internet companies Naver and Daum . In June 2004, Nate had more page views per week than Daum for the first time (3.8 billion versus 3.7 billion). Nate operates the instant messaging program NateOn . In the third week of May 2004, NateOn had 7.54 million users in South Korea. The MSN Messenger had at that time in South Korea only 6.5 million users.
