Nate Jones (born August 18, 1972 in Chicago ) is a former American heavyweight boxer .

amateur

In the heavyweight class (up to 91 kg) Jones won the Golden Gloves in 1994 and 1995 and competed against Félix Savón in an international match , but had to admit defeat 6-2. In 1996 he beat Lamon Brewster , Calvin Brock and DaVarryl Williamson in the national Olympic qualifications . When he took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he lost in the semifinals to David Defiagbon , Canada (16:10), and thus won the bronze medal.

professional

In 1997 Jones switched to the professional camp and won his first 17 fights for Don King . In March 2001 he was then defeated by the Nigerian amateur star Friday Ahunanya just on points. It became clear early on that he had above-average taker skills, but little clout. Finally, he met his amateur rival Brewster, went against him but early KO and ended his career.
