Nathaniel Folsom
Nathaniel Folsom (born September 28, 1726 in Exeter , New Hampshire Colony , † May 26, 1790 ibid) was an American politician . In 1774 and between 1777 and 1780 he was a delegate for New Hampshire to the Continental Congress .
Career
Nathaniel Folsom attended public schools in his home country. From around 1740 he worked in trade. Later he specialized in the wood industry. Among other things, he ran a sawmill and traded in wood for the rest of his life in addition to his other activities. From a young age he was a member of the militia in his homeland. During the Seven Years' War he was a captain in the militia and took an active part in the war. Even after the war he remained in the militia, in which he rose to the rank of colonel until the outbreak of the revolution . He joined the revolutionary movement and rose to major general. He then took part in the War of Independence .
He was politically active even before American independence. He has occasionally been the leader of political discussions in his hometown of Exeter. In 1774 he became a delegate to the Provincial Congress of New Hampshire, of which he was a member until 1783. This congress appointed him as a delegate for the first continental congress in 1774 . Folsom also became a member of the New Hampshire Safety Committee. Between 1777 and 1780 he again took part in the Continental Congress. From 1776 he was also a judge in Rockingham County . Whether he ever studied law is not mentioned in the sources. In 1783 he was also a member and president of a New Hampshire Constitutional Convention. In the same year he was appointed presiding judge of the New Hampshire Court of Appeals ( Court of Common Pleas ). He died on May 26, 1790 in his hometown of Exeter.
