National Technical Supervision Society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Society for Technical Supervision ( French Société Nationale de Contrôle Technique (SNCT) ) is the licensing authority and driving license office in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg . Since 1993, the authority has also been responsible for issuing license plates and electronically checking driving times using tachograph cards. The three test centers are in Sandweiler ( ), Esch an der Alzette ( ) and Wilwerwiltz ( ). The driver's license office is in Kalchesbrueck . There are also two test centers for driving licenses in Diekirch and Findel .

Added to this are the tasks of exchanging data with other state authorities: With the growing increase in cross-border traffic of vehicles, it is now essential to ensure the necessary exchange of information and data about road vehicles with registration authorities in other countries. This exchange takes place via various IT systems such as the Schengen Information System (SIS) and the European Car and Driving License Information System ( EUCARIS ) , in which Luxembourg is an active participant.

The SNCT came under fire in autumn 2012 because the waiting times for the main inspection were up to eight hours. The consumer organization Union luxembourgeoise des consommateurs (ULC) criticized the "unreasonable conditions". The SNCT apologized for these inadequacies on its website and justified this with the high number of new registrations in January 2009 as part of the “Prime à la casse” scrapping bonus. These vehicles are now due for a follow-up examination.

history

The first demonstrable vehicle registration in Luxembourg took place in August 1895: with the number '1' it was assigned to a vehicle of the Benz brand . At that time these administrative tasks were still with the police.

Since 1993, the administrative tasks related to the registration of road vehicles belong to the Ministry of Transport. At that time the National Society for Technical Supervision (SNCT) was established. For this purpose, the Luxembourg Vehicle Information System (LUVIS) was implemented in order to manage all registration-related tasks efficiently and quickly.
