The Nakhon Si Thammarat National Museum is one of more than 30 national museums in Thailand .

location

The Nakhon Si Thammarat National Museum is located in the western part of the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat on the Ratchadamnoen road and is located on the site of the former Wat Suan Luang Tawan Ok.

It is a two-story building.

The Nakhon Si Thammarat National Museum houses artifacts from the four southern provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat , Phatthalung , Surat Thani and Chumphon .

An important object is a statue of Vishnu from the 9th century , which is kept in the South Indian Pala style. It was found in a tree in Kapong Amphoe , Phang Nga Province , which was an important gateway for the colonizing Indians at the time.

Religious art from the Dvaravati and Srivijaya realms up to the Rattanakosin era can be found in the Thai gallery. In addition, two are drums made of bronze from North Vietnam to see which of the Dong Son have been made.

The museum opened in 1974. A branch of the National Library of Thailand was opened nearby in 1976 .
