The Vallée du Mbéré National Park is a national park in eastern central Cameroon .

location

The park is located in the Mbéré district of the Adamaoua region . The western and northern borders are formed by the Koudini River . From there the Bilao River forms the northern border to the Bassara River . The eastern border of the park runs from the Bassara over the Mbéré to the Ngou . The southernmost point in the east is the Lanchrenon waterfall . The southern border runs from Bafouri via Borgou to the border of the Mbéré district. From there the western border runs back to the Koudini.

history

The park was established on February 4, 2004 according to Decree N ° 2004/0352 / PM with the following objectives:

  • Protection of the water reserves for southern Cameroon and preservation of the picturesque landscapes of the Mbéré Valley.
  • Ensuring the continuity and flow of the Mbéré River.
  • Promote the development of ecotourism to help improve the living conditions of local people
  • Protecting the habitat of species such as the hippopotamus , African buffalo and mountain reedbuck .

Construction work in the park requires official approval after an environmental impact assessment. A development plan should regulate the rights of the local population. In the plan, a buffer zone for the park is defined and accompanying measures are implemented to promote socio-economic activities for the residents. The Ministry of Wildlife also established an administrative headquarters at the park. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry is responsible for further regulations based on the principle of urgency.
