The Plauen Nature Conservation Association was founded in 1883 by 27 citizens of the city of Plauen in the Saxon Vogtland . The foundation arose from the desire for a shelter hut and a lookout tower on the " Bärenstein ". It was the first institution in the German-speaking area to have the word "nature conservation" in its name. From the suggested names, such as: " Beautification Association ", "Nature Association" and "Nature Conservation Association", the decision was made to use the name "Nature Conservation Association" proposed by Mayor Oskar Theodor Kuntze . With this name, the association set itself apart from other associations with natural and local history goals.
