The Schopflocher Alb Nature Conservation Center (NAZ) is one of seven public nature conservation centers in Baden-Württemberg.

Nature Conservation Center Schopflocher Alb

The facility emerged from the former nature conservation center of the Esslingen district , which was established in 1989 as the first nature conservation center in Baden-Württemberg. The nature conservation center Schopflocher Alb was founded in autumn 1994 as a foundation under civil law . The foundation is based in Lenningen - Schopfloch . The purpose of the foundation is to promote nature conservation and landscape management as well as the operation of the nature conservation center. The sponsors are the state of Baden-Württemberg and the district of Esslingen.

The nature conservation center is both the information center of the Swabian Alb biosphere area and the information point of the Swabian Alb Geopark .

Location and catchment area

The building of the former district's own nature conservation center in an abandoned quarry was selected to accommodate the nature conservation center. The NAZ is located about 1000 m north of Schopfloch. The Kirchheim unter Teck motorway junction is approx. 15 km away . From there, the NAZ can be reached via the B 465 or the country road via Nabern , Bissingen and Ochsenwang .

Due to its location on the south-eastern edge of the Stuttgart region, the catchment area of the NAZ is relatively large. It includes the districts of Esslingen, Göppingen, Alb-Donau, Reutlingen and the city of Stuttgart with a total of around 2 million inhabitants.
