history

The magazine appeared for the first time in January 1946 under the title Der Naturstein by Aegis Verlag Ulm. Because of the general shortage of paper, the first editions after the Second World War contained a maximum of 20 pages. Individual issues had to be combined or appeared without an envelope.

In 1950 Max & Carl Ebner Zeitschriften-Verlag took over the magazine Der Naturstein and in the 1960s both the circulation and the volume increased. In the course of the global natural stone trade, reporting became more international. In 1967, for example, the natural stone reported for the first time on the international natural stone fair “Marmomacchine” in St. Ambrogio di Valpolicella, Italy.

In 1973 Der Naturstein became the official bulletin of the Federal Association of German Stonemasons. Since January 1975 the magazine has been called Naturstein.

After the GDR joined the Federal Republic of Germany, the number of natural stone used increased in the 1990s. The number of pages also increased and sometimes reached more than 200 pages per issue.

Information platform on the Internet

In 1999 the magazine started with its internet platform Natursteinonline.de. The portal contains a database with images and information on several thousand natural stones. It includes information on the location, technical and physical properties and possible areas of application. The database is based on the collection of the German Natural Stone Archive in Wunsiedel , which records, examines and archives natural stones used worldwide.

The online offer of the specialist journal Naturstein also includes a specialist dictionary with which specialist terms can be translated into seven languages, industry news, background articles, a newsletter, photo reports, an event calendar, an address directory and a web shop with downloads and other products for the natural stone industry.

Information from the Bundesverband Deutscher Steinmetz (BIV) on slip resistance , cleaning and care, local grinding , execution and processing of floor coverings for interiors as well as the installation of exterior window sills made of natural stone is provided online, as is information from the German Natural Stone Association on solid steps and stair coverings in the exterior area, Facade cladding and building maintenance of historical buildings.

Leaflets from a group of experts called euroFEN provide information on topics such as the safe laying of natural stone tiles, slabs and floor coverings made of natural, concrete and agglomerated stone as well as ceramics . There are also written expert discussions that deal, for example, with checking the laying substrate, joint formation and kitchen worktops .

Also presented online by stonemasons and cemetery gardeners are 40 easy-care, needs-based grave site concepts / offers.

The platform has also been available in an English version since 2009.
