Natvigs Minde

Natvigs Minde , also Natvigs minne , is an archipelago island in the North Sea off the Norwegian city of Stavanger in the province of Rogaland .

It is located in the northern part of the city's Vågen harbor , only about 30 meters east of the island of Plentingen , to which there is a connection via a jetty. To the east is the much larger island of Sølyst , north of Engøy . The built-up island extends in a west-east direction over about 100 meters, with a width of up to about 70 meters and a height of about one meter.

history

The island served as a port from an early date. Ships moored here and it was used to dry nets, yarn and sails. The area south of the island was used as a quarantine port. In heavy traffic, ships had to anchor on the island for a few days until a health commission confirmed that no contagious diseases were found on board. When cholera broke out in 1831, a building on the island was used as an isolation ward. In 1870, at the instigation of port captain Thomas Natvig, technical port systems and buildings were built on the island . The largest building was the Pramhuset . It was renovated in 1997 and serves as an event room for groups between 50 and 150 people. After a fire in 2003, the affected building was rebuilt in 2009.
