Engøy is an island in the Byfjord in the Norwegian province of Rogaland . It belongs to the Hundvåg district of the city of Stavanger .

geography

The island covers an area of ​​0.171 km² and has 432 people (as of 2017). It extends from the southwest to the northeast over a length of about one kilometer and a width of up to 400 meters. Due to the bays Eilertvika and Sørvågen on their south bank, their center is only about 100 meters wide. In the center of the island there is also the lake Engøyvatnet , which has an access to the Pyntesundet to the north .

The island is about a kilometer north of Stavanger city center, which is connected by bridges. Various other islands are in the immediate vicinity. To the north, only separated by the narrow arm of the Pyntesundet, is the larger island of Buøy , to which there is a connection via the Pyntesund Bridge . To the northeast are Steinsøyholmen and Steinsøy , to the south, separated by the Engøysundet, the island of Sølyst . history

Engøy originally belonged to the municipality of Hetland and became part of the city of Stavanger on January 1, 1879.

Development
