The Negrellisteg is a pedestrian bridge over the track field of Zurich main station between the train station and the Langstrasse underpass , which is named after Alois Negrelli , the project manager of the Spanish Brötli Railway . Construction of the bridge began on October 3, 2019, and the opening is scheduled for 2020.
history
A first project for a bridge over the railway station track was presented in 2011. The proposal by Flint & Neill suggested a 150-meter-long bridge for pedestrians and cyclists that would have crossed the track field with a tubular support structure made of concrete without a support. The project was rejected in July 2016 because of the high construction costs of CHF 30 million .
In 2018, the municipal council approved the project of a pure pedestrian bridge; other options for crossing the tracks should be created for cyclists. Half of the bridge is financed by the city of Zurich and half by the SBB . The client is the SBB.
Building
The bridge connects the area at Zollstrasse with Europaallee and at the same time offers a view of the train station and the city. At the end of the bridge there is a round lift tower with a spiral staircase running around it . The northern tower is on the new Negrelliplatz at the crossing Zollstrasse / Klingenstrasse, the southern one on Gustav-Gull- Platz in Europaallee.
The superstructure of the bridge consists of a single-cell hollow box girder made of steel, which is supported by two double supports, which are anchored on the ramp walls of the two underground stations of Zurich main station. The parapet consists of a metal mesh. A special lighting integrated into the handrails should make the bridge recognizable at night.
