The Neickmannshof from the north

The former Neickmannshof is an approximately 500 year old half-timbered house in Mülheim an der Ruhr in the Styrum district . It is the only partially preserved farm yard of the Styrum Empire , the center of which was Styrum Castle . The two-story post structure was saved from deterioration by RWW Rheinisch-Westfälische Wasserwerkgesellschaft at the end of the 1970s and it was extensively restored. Today it is operated by the water company under the name "Haus am Wasser" and is rented out for small conferences and meetings in an exclusive setting.

Excavations at Neickmannshof two workshops were found that the smelting of bog iron to iron served. The finds show that an ironworks already existed here at the beginning of the 17th century , long before the St.-Antony-Hütte in Osterfeld , which is actually the oldest ironworks in the lower Ruhr valley and marks the transition from pre-industrial to industrial production in the region .
