Dolmen de la Gélie

The Édon necropolis is formed by the limestone slabs "Dolmen de la Pierre Rouge", the "Dolmen de la Gélie" and the " Menhir de la Pierre Debout". The latter two are located near the D443 road from Angoulême to Périgueux . All three are north of Édon in the extreme south-east of the Charente department near the border with the Dordogne department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The "so-called Necropolis of Édon" is not an accumulation of several Neolithic megalithic systems , but two locations - about one kilometer apart. However, the ensemble has been recognized as a Monument historique under this name since 1989 .

Dolmen de la Pierre Rouge

The Dolmen de la Pierre Rouge (also called Dolmen de Lambertie) to the west is about 6.25 m long and 3.25 m wide and is covered by a huge, sloping capstone protruding on all sides. The side bearing stones and the end stone have also been preserved.

Dolmen de la Gélie

The Dolmen de la Gélie is small but typical dolmen of the angevin type with a front portal.

The " Menhir de la Pierre Debout" is located southwest of the Dolmen de la Gélie, in the forest next to the road. It is two meters long and high.
