Nelly Sachs House
The Nelly-Sachs-Haus is a Jewish retirement and nursing home in Düsseldorf-Stockum . The establishment has a kosher kitchen, the Sabbath and the Jewish holidays (religious and secular) are celebrated.
history
The house at Nelly-Sachs-Strasse 5 was built from 1969 to 1970 on behalf of the Düsseldorf Jewish Community based on designs by the architect Wolfgang Döring as a dormitory and guest house for the parents of the community members who had returned to Düsseldorf. Initially there was space for 80, 90 or 97 residents. It was named after Nelly Sachs, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature .
Taking into account the new regulations for old people's and nursing homes, the building was extensively rebuilt and expanded in 2003 by the architects Margret Balkow and Ernst Endres, so that 110 people in need of care can be looked after. At the same time, the house's energy requirements were reduced.
In 2005, the Nelly-Sachs-Haus received the award “ Energy saver NRW” for the installation of solar collectors on a 190 m² roof area, which reduced energy costs by 30% . In 2006, the facility took part in the Architecture Day in North Rhine-Westphalia and opened up to visitors.
The building complex consists of several buildings and has 110 places for seniors.
The building is a skeleton structure whose "gable cladding made of exposed aggregate concrete slabs " , which is no longer visible , was mentioned in the Düsseldorf architectural guide .
