Wolfgang Döring (architect)

Wolfgang Döring (born March 31, 1934 in Berlin-Zehlendorf ) is a German architect and university professor .

Life

Döring's family moved from Berlin to Oberhausen when his father was appointed director of Ruhrchemie .

Döring first studied with Hans Döllgast at the Technical University of Munich , where he passed the preliminary diploma examination in 1957. 1958 followed the main diploma examination at the Technical University of Karlsruhe with Egon Eiermann , in whose office he then worked. In 1960 he became an assistant at Paul Schneider-Esleben in Düsseldorf , where he founded his own architectural office in 1964. From 1971 to 1973 he ran a second office in Milan . During this time he provided, among other things, the designs for a cultural center in Modena .

In 1972 Döring was appointed professor to the chair for design and building construction at RWTH Aachen University. He developed numerous projects in the field of prefabrication; The most successful is the Form program 2000 , which was mainly used for the construction of schools, kindergartens and office buildings.

From 1974 to 1976 he ran an office in Riyadh , where he was involved in the planning and construction of sports centers in Saudi Arabia and projects in Libya . From 1984 to 1989 he had an office in Istanbul with Tülay Arkhan . In 1985 he took over the renovation of the Melnikov House in Moscow .

In 1989 he was invited to the Buenos Aires Biennale to be awarded an architecture prize.

Döring's former students Michael Dahmen and Elmar Joeressen have been partners in his architecture office since 1996. From 1997 to 2000 Wolfgang Döring was chairman of the art association for the Rhineland and Westphalia .
