Neobuxbaumia squamulosa is a species of the genus Neobuxbaumia in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Neobuxbaumia squamulosa grows tree-shaped with single or branched shoots and reaches heights of 7 to 10 meters. Occasionally there is a trunk up to 2 meters high and 18 to 90 centimeters in diameter. The gray-green, more or less upright shoots are 5 to 7.5 meters long and reach a diameter of 12 to 17.5 centimeters. The 13 to 17 sharp ribs are wavy. The single, yellowish to slightly purple central spine is straight or slightly curved inwards and 1.2 to 2.4 centimeters long. The five whitish gray radial spines are somewhat flexible and up to 18 millimeters long.

The tubular flowers appear on the side of the shoots or near the shoot tips. They are white, 8 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 2.5 to 3.4 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with protruding humps, paper-like scales as well as wool and bristles. The ellipsoidal, green fruits tear open lengthways and are up to 2.5 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Neobuxbaumia squamulosa is common in the Mexican states of Colima , Guerrero and Michoacán . It was first described in 1990 by Leia Scheinvar and Hernándo Sánchez-Mejorada .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
