Neochori ( Greek Νεοχώρι ( n. Sg. )) Is a village and a local community in the Paramythia parish of the Souli parish in the Greek region of Epirus .
The village is located south of the river Kalamas (Thyamis) at an altitude of approx. 300 m and has three churches, the oldest of which (Αγία Παρασκευή) was built in the 18th century during the ' Turkish rule '.
history
Neochori was founded around the 17th century and was half inhabited by Muslim Çamen until 1944 . After the Çamen had left the village, some families of the nomadic people of the Aromanians and Sarakatsans settled there. During the period of German occupation from 1941 to 1944 in the course of the Balkan campaign , the Christian population had to flee the village temporarily.
Neochori itself has 157 inhabitants (as of 2011) and together with the villages of Agios Georgios (Άγιος Γεώργιος ( m. Sg. ), 43 inhabitants) and Neraida (Νεράιδα ( f. Sg. ), 303 inhabitants) forms the local community Neochori (Τοαπική Κοινότητητητη Νεοχωρίου) with a total of 503 inhabitants.
