Neolamprologus olivaceous ( synonym : Lamprologus olivaceous ) is a species of cichlid that is endemic to the west bank of the East African Lake Tanganyika in Lunangwa Bay.
features
Neolamprologus olivaceous becomes 5.5 to 6 cm long and is therefore the smallest species of the Neolamprologus pulcher species group. The body height is 29 to 31% of the standard length , the head length is 33–37% of the standard length. Neolamprologus olivaceous is pale green beige in color; the scales of the flanks show weak brownish edges. A black spot on the gill cover is missing. The unpaired fins are drawn out at the tips, the outer rays of the caudal fin are white. The cheek and preoperculum are scaly, the unpaired fins are only slightly scaly. The scales are relatively large for such a small fish; in a transverse row (transversal row) below the upper sideline, only 8.5 scales are counted. This, the missing dark spot on the gill cover and only seven gill rakes distinguish Neolamprologus olivaceous from the closely related species Neolamprologus pulcher .
- Fins formula : dorsal XVIII – XIX / 8–9, anal V – VI / 5–7
- Dandruff formula 15–19 / 3–8 (SL), 32–35 (mLR)
- Gill rake: 7.
Way of life
Neolamprologus olivaceous lives in small groups on rocky coasts and has a slight tendency to form schools. In its area of distribution it occurs sympatric with the closely related species Neolamprologus crassus .
